Introduction

 

The Town and Regional Planning Department, is under the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.

 

The Department provides state-wide planning services, and functions as an advisor to the Federal State Government and planning, land use, and development control matters. The Department provide guidance on Planning and acts as the Secretariat to the Central Town and Country Planning Board (Central Board).

 

 

History

 

The Department was officially established on 1st January 1980.  Prior to that, the functions and responsibilities of the department were under the jurisdiction of the Lands and Survey Department. At its inception it had 21 staff. Now there are over 100 personnel, stationed in 3 locations: at the Kota Kinabalu Headquarters and at the Branch Offices in Sandakan and Tawau.
